Porter Plant is a privately owned Australian comapny with over a thirty (30) year track record of success in gas and civil construction, earthmoving, plant hire and quarry products. We pride ourselves on providing our valued customers with competitive rates, quality customer service.
The company has depots located in Ballarat, Melbourne and Wangaratta. We employ a diverse range of highly skilled and qualified employees to ensure we provide our customers with consistently high standards. When Norman & Shirley Porter began running a gas construction business from their home in Mt Clear during 1973 they never dreamt it would be so successful.
At that time the business was a modest one with one truck, one backhoe and various items of plant successfully laying gas pipe for the then Gas & Fuel Corporation .
The demand for Norm's services continued to grow and in 1983 Norm's eldest son Tim, left school to work for the family business, which was then called AN & SM Porters. Tim left the family business to pursue road construction contracts in 1989 and formed his own business called Tim Porter Excavations. It wasn't until a few years down the track, with both businesses trading well, that Tim and Norm sat down one night to discuss a business partnership in order to expand their services.
In 1994 Tim and his father Norm rolled their small contracting businesses into one, to form Porter Excavations Pty Ltd; at that time they owned three backhoes and six trucks.
Initially, Porters' work was wet hire for local jobs, but Tim soon realised there was a large demand for dry hire equipment as well. The major requirement in this field was to be able to guarantee the reliability of the equipment and thus a program and set of rules was developed to insure this to customers.
The company's perseverance in the gas industry continued for some years whilst at the same time Tim & Norm made it their duty to build a quality fleet of vehicles and equipment to not only carry out the required services but to create an image in the community which was to be second to none.
After using Tim's house as a depot and place of business for 6 years, 22 acres of land in Cambrian Hill was purchased and 2 large sheds and a 32 sq office was built creating a location from where Porter Plant trades today.
The company has grown to develop key relationships with Abigroup Asset Services to deliver a company base, a fleet of vehicles and a group of trained staff to construct and maintain gas mains in the western region of Victoria and also Vicroads through supplying and maintaining all plant and equipment in the State of Victoria for road maintenance.
